The magnificent, unstoppable force of the sea, the scourge of plastics on our beaches, smoke hanging low over the winter valley and the still crystal clear water of our torrents. Sollerics have captured the beauty and challenges facing a fragile ecosystem in a photography competition organised by the Plataforma Sóller Vall Verda. More than 100 photos were submitted and the finalists and five winners – in the categories earth, water, air, energy and waste – can be seen for one night only on Friday, March 15 at 19.00 at Can Dulce.Prizes were generously donated by small businesses and restaurants.
“While it’s true that these aren’t your typical postcards of Sóller, there’s a certain vulnerable beauty to all of these images,” explained the organisers. “And they remind us that the task protecting our waters, agriculture and air is more important than ever. These are postcards that send a message that’s all too urgent and one we ignore at our peril.”
The photographers included children as young as 12 and the exhibition coincides with the day of global action by students to save our planet.
